On Saturday, January 6, 2018, VBMA’s Organized Chaos Robotics Team (#14073) participated in the Mississippi’s First Tech Challenge Regional Qualifier held in Pearl, MS, at the Clyde Muse Center on the campus of Hinds Community College. The event was held from 7:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. and included 16 teams from around the state. Our team entry was comprised of these VBMA Scholars: Ariel Darden, Destiny Mayfield, Kennedi Fitzgerald, Khalyl Carson, Matthew Campbell, Logan Lane, Jada Erves, Anthony Lumpkin, Keyondria Tarleton, Tylah Magee, Raven McDonald and Desirae Johnson.
On the day, the team performed well and made it to the semi-finals with their selected FTC Alliance partner, a team from Jackson, MS; the Spark-o-Matics. Although the team did not advance, this event proved a great opportunity for the VBMA Scholars to be exposed to STEM by participating in an activity that was fun and engaging. The team climbed in the standings throughout the day finally placing sixth (6th) out of the 16 teams that competed for an opportunity to advance to the state finals to be held in March of 2018. Although Organized Chaos was in the semifinal round, only the winning team earns an opportunity to advance.
