The Apple and TMCF HBCU Initiative: Inspiring the Next Generation of Talent
|TMCF and Apple believe creating a diverse and open workplace is the best way to attract great talent, inspire great ideas, and do great work. That’s why we are proud to present the HBCU Initiative aimed at inspiring young innovators and expanding the technical talent pool at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). We invite you to learn more about the scholarship and internship opportunity available to a select group of talented HBCU students.
Apple HBCU Scholars Program
The Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF) in partnership with Apple is proud to present the Apple HBCU Scholars Program to outstanding students with a minimum 3.3 GPA who will be graduating between December 2018 and May 2019. Eligible students should be currently working towards a degree in an undergraduate, Masters, or Ph.D. program. Selected scholars will participate in a 12-week internship during the summer of 2018, and will receive up to $25,000 in scholarship funding based on financial need that will be applied to their final year of study. Each scholar will have an Apple mentor throughout their experience, receive an opportunity to develop key skills, enhance their resumes, and help launch their careers through the hands-on experience gained at one of the top tech companies in the world.
These scholars will:
Note: As part of the Apple HBCU Scholars Program, the HBCU Immersion will bring scholars to Apple’s main campus in Cupertino, California, for a 7-day event geared towards educating students about Apple’s ecosystem. Taught and facilitated by Apple employees, this Immersion gives scholars the opportunity to experience the Apple and Silicon Valley culture. It also provides Apple leaders the unique opportunity to more deeply engage with scholars to better understand the HBCU culture.
How to Apply
The final component of the Apple HBCU Initiative is the HBCU Faculty Summit (HFS). This year, 15 HBCUs with accredited engineering programs were invited to participate in this immersive opportunity at Apple. In an effort to expand the pipeline and address the sparse number of students pursuing engineering degrees, Apple and TMCF worked collaboratively to provide the deans and faculty in attendance with a comprehensive experience of what makes Apple so unique.
